Course description:

In this course, the student is going to study a variety of poems in any literature (Am, Brit, commonwealth) in English language; they should be linguistically and culturally suitable to the students. Elements of literary analysis related to poetry,its features and language should be focused. At this level, students are encouraged to make interpretations.

Teaching objectives:

-To recognise features of poetry at the acoustic, visual and verbal levels of analysis.
-To explore poetry through listening, discussion, writing, and appreciating poems from different Anglophone cultures.
-Develop students' knowledge and understanding, and critical thinking through the analysis of poems from different historical and cultural settings.
-To enhance students'ability to examine a poem for its structure, thematic meaning, larger symbolic meaning and cultural significance.
-To  master more literary terms  and  concepts  and  to  apply  them  appropriately  in speaking and writing about poetry.
-To develop one's language skills (speaking/writing) as well as vocabulary.

-To express feelings and ideas in response to poetic works.
